I hopped on the air bike a little after 7 this morning and fired up Welcome to the Jungle.
I finished up my last deadlift single and walked out of the gym to the closing notes of Rocket Queen.
Not a bad little Monday morning session.
Mondays are bike sprints, a brisk walk at a steep incline, and then deadlift singles with a hook grip if I feel up to it. I always tell myself “I’ll skip the pulls this week” and then halfway through the treadmill meditation it flips to “I’m gonna deadlift”.
Appetite for Destruction is just short of 54 minutes. That’s a rock-solid conditioning and fat-burning session with some deadlift fun, all in under an hour.
And that’s with me being generous with the amount of work I do.
Somebody who isn’t me could easily cut that in half to finish up around Paradise City or My Michelle.
Dial back the sprints, spend less time in steep treadmill flow, and cut the deadlifts entirely as they’re my personal hobby, not a must-have.
It’s a simple matter of fiddling with the dials. A real hard-case could go in the other direction and turn it into a 90 minute session if they wanted. I don’t advise that for a variety of reasons, but nobody cares what I say about anything, so whatever, knock yourself out.
People tell me “I don’t have time to do all that”.
Untrue. Everyone has the time.
What they lack is the desire and the intent to make it happen. If you can’t spare 30 minutes to move your body, you’re not going to make it. Take that in whatever sense you want to take it.
For everyone who isn’t already lost in their own very sad story, it doesn’t have to be that difficult or time-intensive.
Fact is, the less time and the less energy wasted, the better off you are. Results come from concentrated effort, like turning sunlight into an ant-frying death-beam with a powerful lens, not from endless junk volume that “makes you feel like you did something”.
Hit the targets that create change and it doesn’t take much.
